Note:
As of June 30, 2024, Giropay is a deprecated payment method in Stripe.
Giropay is a joint online payment method used by German banks and savings banks. It allows users to make payments with Giropay username and password, or even easier, with fingerprint or face recognition.
Giropay redirects customers to their website to authenticate payment and there is an immediate notification about the success or failure of a payment.

Giropay Payment Workflow
- The user selects Giropay and chooses their bank.
- The customer is redirected to their bank’s login page.
- The participating bank displays transaction data.
- The consumer enters the account number or PIN.
- The bank authorizes transactions in real-time, deducting the amount directly from the consumer’s account (if there is not enough balance, the transaction will be refused).
- The merchant received real-time confirmation of the payment from the bank.
- The customer is redirected back to the Merchant page with a confirmation that the payment has been successful.

Hi Christian Tsivakina,
Thanks for reaching out!
Please note that Giropay is no longer supported by Stripe, and as a result, it’s no longer available through our plugin either.
For a UK-based business with an international customer base, we recommend exploring other payment gateways that support multi-currency payments and offer fast settlement times (T+1 or T+2), such as Stripe (for cards and wallets) or Paypal.
We suggest contacting your preferred payment provider to confirm support for your target regions and expected settlement timelines.
If you need help setting up a compatible payment method with our plugin, feel free to reach out to our customer support team — we’re happy to assist!
