The purpose of a quantity-based discount is to entice customers to buy more. Quantity discounts result in less cost per unit of goods when they buy in bulk. Smart Coupon for WooCommerce (free) gives you the provision to create coupons with specific volume-based or category-based discount coupons.
Getting Started
- First of all, install and activate the plugin.
- Then, from the WordPress dashboard, go to Marketing > Coupons.
Quantity Or Subtotal Based Discounts
With the plugin, you can set up the following discount rules:
BOGO-Buy One, Get One Free (Same Product)
- From the Coupon window, click on Add Coupon. Key in an appropriate coupon code and description.
- From the General tab, select Discount type as BOGO (Buy X Get X/Y) offer.
- Now, select the Number of times to Apply once or Apply repeatedly. For example, let’s look at the case of a ‘Buy one, Get One free’ coupon, if you want the coupon to be only applied once even if the customer buys 2 products, choose to apply once. However, if you want the customer to receive 1 free item for every 1 product they purchase, select Apply repeatedly.
- Then, go to the Usage Restriction tab, select the product you’d like to offer, enable Individual quantity restrictions, and set the Minimum quantity as 1.
- Next, open the Giveaway products tab, and select the same product at a 100% discount to offer it for free. Also, select the Quantity as 1.
- Finally, publish the coupon.
- The cart page view on applying BOGO is as shown below:
Buy 2, Get 1 Free (Specific Category)
- From the Coupon window, click on Add Coupon. Key in an appropriate coupon code and description.
- From the General tab under Coupon data, select the Discount type as Percentage discount/Fixed cart discount/Fixed product discount. Make sure to leave the Coupon amount field empty.
- Go to the Usage Restriction tab, select the Products category you’d like to offer the discount on, and set the Minimum quantity of matching products as 2.
- Next, open the Giveaway products tab, and select the product you wish to offer for free on buying the products from the categories listed above.
- Finally, publish the coupon.
- The cart page view on applying Buy 2, get 1 free is as shown below:

I’m trying to structure a coupon like so:
For each X at full price, get 40% off an additional X or Y
So that a purchase of 1 X and 1 Y would discount only the Y 40%
And if they bought 2 X at full price, they could buy 2 additional Y and get 40% off both Y items.
Is this possible?
Thanks – excellent product.

Hi John,
You can set up a BOGO coupon to achieve this functionality. You may go to the Usage restriction tab and add product X in the Product restriction field. Then go to the Giveaway products tab and add products X & Y to the specific product field. Choose the Any from below selection option. To apply this coupon repeatedly, go to the General tab and choose the Apply repeatedly option. Kindly check it in that way and let us know how it goes.

Me gustaría saber si puedo poner que un código se aplique siempre y cuando en el carrito hayan 300€ de productos y el 50% sean de una categoría y el otro 50% sean de otra categoría.

Hi Rebeca,
We understand the requirement, but our plugin currently does not support this feature. However, we have included BOGO in the next release. You will be able to configure quantity based coupons in different ways. Please keep the plugin updated. Thanks for understanding.

Hi There.
i am trying to make a coupon where people get to buy 2 items and get 3rd item free on all products. however the giveaway item should be equal price or least expensive. for example:
1 Coat: 100$
1 trainers: 80$
1 Tshirt: 40$ (FREE) system should automatically giveaway the cheapest item free.
please let me know how this could be done.
thank you
