Update Shopify Product Stock Status to Out of Stock in Bulk

Sometimes, you may intentionally need to mark certain products as sold out or out of stock, and Shopify offers a solution for this. If you only have one or two products, it’s not too difficult. However, if you have many products to mark as sold out, relying solely on Shopify’s default option may not be as practical as expected. With StoreRobo Import Export Suite updating product status as sold out or out of stock is much easier and can be done in a couple of minutes.

To update the product status:

  1. Export the products with Basic columns.
  2. Download and filter the unnecessary columns.
  3. Update the stock status for the products.
  4. Import the CSV file back into the store.

Step 1: Export Shopify products to update stock status

To export the necessary products,

  1. Head to StoreRobo Import/Export Suite.
  2. Click on Proceed under Export.

  1. Under Select data, choose Products.
  2. Expand the data type and, under Basic Columns, select ID and Handle.
  3. Under Variants & Inventory, select Option 1 Value and Variant Inventory Qty.

You can also use the filter option to select only selected products. For example, we will be selecting the products with the Handles: Nelo T Shirt, Aero Shoes. To know more on product filters and how to efficiently use them refer to, StoreRobo Export Filters for Shopify Product Data

  1. Keep other options unchanged and click on Export.
  2. Once the export is done Download the CSV file.

Step 2: Update products as out of stock

Once the CSV file is downloaded,

  1. Open the downloaded CSV file.
  2. Remove unnecessary columns, retaining ID, Handle, Option1 Value, and Variant Inventory Qty.

  1. When you don’t want to change the quantity status of selected products or variants you can simply delete the row with that product or variant. For example, here we won’t be updating the status of the example-t-shirt with the value Large.
  2. For all other products update the Variant Inventory Qty to 0.

  1. Now save the file in CSV format.

Step 3: Import the CSV file back into the store

Once you have successfully modified and saved the CSV file,

  1. Head back to StoreRobo Import/Export Suite.
  2. Under Import, select the updated file from the saved location.
  3. Choose a delimiter as the one you set while saving the file. (comma is the default one). To know more about delimiters refer to:

  1. You can use the preview option to verify the data.
  2. Under Select data type, select Products.
  3. Click on Proceed.

  1. Under options, select Update if products already exist in the store.
  2. Finally, click on Import to update the data.

On successful import, the status will change to completed and you will be notified by mail.

Once the import is completed the status of the selected products will be updated as out of stock.
