How to set up Apple Pay in WooCommerce (for free)

This article explains how to set up Apple Pay in WooCommerce for free. We will be setting up Apple Pay using the Stripe payment processing service. To set up Stripe we will use the Stripe Payment Plugin for WooCommerce by WebToffee.

Setting up Apple Pay on your WooCommerce store can be really convenient for your customers, so they don’t have to manually fill in the payment and billing details each time they place an order. In this article, we will show you how to set up Apple Pay on WooCommerce.

Before setting up Apple Pay there are some prerequisites.

Prerequisites for setting up Apple Pay

Following are the prerequisites for setting up Apple Pay in WooCommerce

1. Register Domain to Stripe

As said earlier, we will be using the Stripe payment processing service to set up Apple Pay on WooCommerce. Before we begin the setup, we have to register our domain to the Stripe dashboard for enabling Apple Pay.

To register domains to the stripe dashboard for Apple Pay:

  1. Download the domain association file and host it at /.well-known/apple-developer-merchantid-domain-association on your site.

For example, if you’re registering https://eshoppe.com, make that file available at https://eshoppe.com/.well-known/apple-developer-merchantid-domain-association.

  1. No go to the Apple Pay tab in the account settings of your stripe dashboard and add your domain. Registration is required for all domains, regardless of whether they are in production or testing.
  1. Test the configuration on a compatible device using an Apple Wallet payment method.

Now that you have registered your domain on the Stripe dashboard let’s set up Apple Pay on your WooCommerce store.

2. Set up Apple Pay on your devices

To set up Apple Pay on your devices, make sure your country/region supports Apple pay.

You must first add your card to your eligible device in order to use Apple Pay on it. Apple Pay can be used on multiple devices, but you must add your card to each one. With Apple Watch Series 3, iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus, you can add up to 12 cards. In earlier models, you can add up to 8 cards.

With Apple Pay on your iPhone or Apple Watch, you can use your card on some Mac models using Safari on the web.

Adding credit/debit cards to iPhone

  • Open the Wallet app on your iPhone, and click on the + icon.
  • Choose Debit or Credit card from the menu and click Continue.
  • Scan your card to automatically add your card details. You can also choose to enter card details manually and proceed with verification.

Depending on your bank or card issuer, you may be asked to provide more information. Your verification code will be sent to you via email, text, or phone call depending on your verification method. Once you have the information, finish the verification process and there you go.

How to set up Apple Pay in WooCommerce?

Follow the steps below to set up Apple Pay on your WooCommerce store.

  1. Install the Stripe for WooCommerce Plugin

    • Open your WordPress dashboard and navigate to Plugins > Add New.
    • Search for ‘Stripe Payment Plugin for WooCommerce’ by WebToffee.

    • Install and activate the plugin.

  2. Configure Stripe Credentials

    • Log in to your Stripe account and obtain the API keys. If you don’t have a stripe account, click here to create one.
    • Now go to WebTofee Stripe > General settings.
    • Choose Live mode as the transaction mode and add the publishable key and secret key.

  3. Setting up Apple Pay

    • Go to the Apple Pay tab under the WebToffee Stripe menu.
    • Enable the Apple Pay checkbox.
    • Select where you want to show the Apple Pay button.
    • Provide a separator and a description for the Apple Pay button.

    • Click on Save changes to complete the setup.

  4. Previewing the Apple Pay button

    To view Apple Pay on your WooCommerce store site you must use HTTPS and a supported browser such as Safari on running macOS Sierra or later and Mobile Safari on iOS 10.1 or later.
