What is the Difference Between Coupons and Discounts?

Coupons and discounts are marketing strategies that are used by businesses to attract customers and boost sales. Even though both are used for the same purpose, they do have different characteristics.

Coupons are digital or physical vouchers that can be used to redeem for a specific discount or offer. They often have a unique coupon code that needs to be presented or entered during the checkout process. Coupons can offer various types of discounts, such as fixed discounts, percentage discounts, or special deals like BOGO. They usually have an expiration date.

Discounts are price reductions for products or services that are applied directly to the selling price. They can offer percentage discounts (e.g., 10% off) or fixed-amount discounts (e.g., $20 off).

Unlike coupons, discounts do not require a coupon code to avail of the benefit. They are often applied automatically when customers meet predefined conditions, such as buying a specific quantity of products or reaching a certain spending limit.
