Geo-targeted Cookie Consent and Multi-Banner support

Various countries or regions may have distinct regulations concerning online privacy and cookie usage. It’s crucial to thoroughly examine the legal requirements in your users’ locations and adjust your banner accordingly. Providing customized banners based on user location can enhance the user experience by aligning with regional norms and expectations.

Currently, banners can be set separately for European and American users using WebToffee’s GDPR Cookie Consent Plugin. This can be done by following the steps:

1. From the dashboard, navigate to Cookie Consent > Cookie Banner.
2. Select both GDPR and CCPR in the Consent law.

3. To set the first banner, select the law as GDPR in the Customize option, and move on to the General tab.
   1. Here, from the Geo-target banner option, select EU Countries & UK.
   2. Click on Update Settings.

4. To set the next banner, Select the law as US State Law from the Customize option dropdown list box, and move on to the General tab.
   1. Here, from the Geo-target banner option, Select United States.
   2. Click on Update Settings.

5. This will set multiple banners based on regions. Visitors from European countries will see the GDPR banner and the Visitors from US states would see a CCPA banner.

Geotargeting is a feature that helps display consent banners based on the user’s location. This customization can be useful for delivering region-specific content, complying with local regulations, or tailoring the user experience based on location preferences. This section explains the steps needed to create a geo-targeted cookie message bar using WebToffee’s GDPR Cookie Consent Plugin.

1. From the WordPress dashboard, go to GDPR cookie consent > Cookie banner.
2. Then, enable the geo IP feature from the General tab. This can be done by choosing the options available through the Geo-target banner feature. The options tend to vary on the law that is currently under customization.
3. If GDPR is the law, selecting the Worldwide option displays the GDPR cookie consent banner worldwide. Selecting the option EU Countries & UK displays the GDPR cookie consent banner only for the EU and UK countries.

4. When CCPA is the law, selecting the option Worldwide displays the cookie consent banner worldwide. Selecting the option United States displays the cookie consent banner for countries in the United States alone.

Following the steps will ensure that the cookie banner is geotargeted based on the user’s location and the law under which they comply.
