How to Offer a Discount Coupon When a Product is Sent as a Gift

The WebToffee WooCommerce Gift Cards plugin allows you to offer automatic discounts to customers who choose to send products as gifts. To set this up, navigate to Gift Cards > General Settings > Send product as gift to enable the feature, then create a coupon under Smart Coupons > Add Coupon that specifically targets the “Product as gift” ID. This configuration ensures that a discount, such as a fixed or percentage reduction, is automatically applied at checkout whenever a customer uses the “Gift this product” button, encouraging more gift-based sales in your store.

1. Install and activate WebToffee WooCommerce Gift Cards.
2. Install and activate Smart Coupons for WooCommerce (Free).

To enable the Send product as a gift option in the store,

1. From the WordPress dashboard, navigate to Gift cards > General settings > Send product as gift.
2. Enable the option Send product as gift. For a detailed idea about the feature, refer to the article, Send a Product as a Gift in WooCommerce.
3. Customize the feature as per requirements.
4. Save the configuration.

Once the configurations are saved, a new product will be added under the Gift cards products tab, as shown. This product is associated with the send product as gift option. Therefore, any restriction or coupon applicable to this product will also apply to all gift cards sent through the send product as gift option. Please make sure to note down the product ID of the gift card for future reference.

Once the Send product as gift option is enabled to associate a discount coupon with the product:

1. From the WordPress dashboard, navigate to Smart Coupons > Add Coupon.
2. Enter a Coupon code and Description.
3. From the General tab, select a discount type and value. Let’s set a fixed product discount of $5.
4. Enable Apply coupon automatically to apply the coupon automatically upon adding the gift card to the cart.

5. Now, move on to the Usage restriction tab.
6. Enable Product/Category restrictions.
7. Select Product condition as Any from below selection.
8. Under Products, search for Product as gift and select the product with the product ID that you noted down in the previous section.

9. Finally, publish the coupon.

Now, when you add a gift card to the cart through the Gift this product button, a fixed product discount of $5 will automatically be applied.
