A welcome pop-up campaign is one of the most effective ways to turn first-time visitors into subscribers or customers. With the WebToffee e-Commerce Marketing Automation app, you can easily create a pop-up that appears when someone visits your store for the first time, offering a discount or special message to encourage engagement.
What is a Welcome Popup?
A welcome pop-up typically:
- Greets new visitors on their first visit
- Offers an incentive (like a discount or exclusive content)
- Collects an email address for future marketing
- Appears immediately or after a short delay
These are sample welcome popups you can build using the app.

Now, let’s dive into building one from scratch.
- From the Marketing sidebar, go to Forms and Widgets > Popup and embed forms.
- Click “Create New Campaign.”

Step 2: Choose a Welcome Campaign Template
- In the template gallery, click the Welcome campaigns tab.
- Select a template design that aligns with your brand (e.g., discount pop-ups like “Get 10% off on your first order”).

Step 3: Configure Welcome Campaign Settings
Once you select a template, you’ll land on the campaign configuration screen. For welcome campaigns, the goal is to greet new visitors early in their session and incentivize them to subscribe.

A. Trigger
- Leave triggers unchecked to show the popup immediately when a visitor lands on your site — ideal for delivering a timely welcome message.
- Alternatively, you can enable “After a delay” and set a short delay (3–5 seconds) to give users a brief moment to engage with the page before the pop-up appears.
B. Display Frequency
- Set to Once per visitor
- This setting ensures that the pop-up is shown only once per person, preventing repetitive interruptions. It’s ideal for creating a smooth and respectful first impression while still capturing leads.

Step 4: Add Targeting Conditions for Welcome Campaign
Welcome campaigns are designed for first-time visitors, so it’s essential to use targeting rules that align with this goal.
A. Audience
- Set to: New visitors
- This ensures the pop-up is displayed only to users visiting your store for the first time, making the welcome message timely and relevant. It avoids annoying returning customers who’ve already seen or engaged with the campaign.
B. UTM Parameters (Optional)
- Use this only if your welcome offer is meant for visitors coming from specific campaigns, like a Facebook ad or email link with UTM tracking.
C. Page URLs (Optional)
- Use the Include option to display the pop-up only at key entry points (e.g., the homepage).
- Use Exclude to hide it from checkout or thank-you pages, where it could disrupt the user flow.
- This keeps the pop-up relevant and prevents it from being displayed in places where it’s not useful.
D. Product Categories (Optional)
- Enable this only if your welcome offer is specific to certain products or category pages.
- The pop-up will appear after the visitor spends at least 30 seconds on those pages, indicating interest.

Step 5: Set Device Visibility
- Select ‘All devices’ to reach visitors on both desktop and mobile devices.
Step 6: Customize the Welcome Popup Template
Click “Edit template” and follow these steps to create a clean, engaging pop-up that welcomes new visitors and drives sign-ups.

A. Greet New Visitors with a Headline
- Double-click the headline text and update it to something clear and benefit-driven.
Example: “Get 10% off on your first order!” - Add a short subtext to reinforce the value:
Example: “Be the first to hear about new arrivals.” - Keep the design minimal and on-brand. Adjust font, size, and alignment from the right panel.

B. Keep the Form Simple
- Click the Email input field:
- Placeholder: “Enter your email”
- Error message: “Invalid email address.”
- Make sure it’s wide and easy to tap on a mobile.
Tip: Only ask for the email. Keep it short to reduce drop-offs.

C. Set the Call-to-Action (CTA)
- Click the CTA button and update:
- Button text: “Grab this deal.”
- Action: Go to next step (takes the user to the success screen)
- Customize button color and text style to match your brand.

D. Deliver the Offer on the Success Page
- Click the Success page tab:
- Add a bold headline like: “Here’s your 10% coupon!”
- Click on the Coupon block and select or create a coupon.
- Update the final button to say “Continue shopping”
- Action: Set it to Close the popup.

E. Keep the Layout Clean
Don’t overcrowd the popup. Use only what’s essential:
- ✅ Text, Email input, CTA button, and Coupon block.
- ❌ Skip fields like phone number, date, or countdown (not needed for welcome flows).
Step 7: Save and Publish the Campaign
- Click Finish editing to save your template.

- Give a suitable name for the welcome campaign.
- Click Publish to make the welcome pop-up live on your store.

Your welcome campaign will now greet new users based on your defined rules and display settings.
See the Popup in Action
Once published, visit your store as a first-time visitor (or open it in an incognito window) to preview the pop-up.
You should see the welcome pop-up appear based on your configured settings either immediately or after a short delay.
