An exit intent pop-up campaign is one of the most effective ways to stop visitors from leaving your store without taking action. Exit intent popups are designed to detect when a user is about to close the tab or navigate away, and then display a targeted message, such as a discount, free shipping offer, or special promotion, to encourage them to stay, subscribe, or complete a purchase.
With the WebToffee e-Commerce Marketing Automation app, you can easily set up an exit intent pop-up campaign to recover abandoned visitors and boost conversions.
What is an Exit Intent Popup?
An exit intent pop-up typically:
- Detects when a user’s cursor moves toward closing the window or leaving the page.
- Offers an incentive such as a discount, free shipping, or exclusive content.
- Captures email addresses before users bounce.
- Helps reduce abandoned sessions and recover lost sales.
- From the Marketing sidebar, go to Forms and Widgets > Popup and embed forms.
- Click “Create New Campaign.”

Step 2: Choose an Exit Intent Campaign Template
- In the template gallery, select the Exit intent pop-ups tab.
- Choose a template that aligns with your brand and campaign goal, for example, offering a last-minute discount (“Wait! Don’t leave yet, here’s 10% off”) or capturing emails (“Join our list before you go”).

Step 3: Configure Exit Intent Campaign Settings
Once you select a template, you’ll land on the campaign configuration screen.
A. Trigger
- Enable On exit intent to show the pop-up right when users are about to leave.
- Works best on desktop browsers.
B. Display Frequency
- Set to Once per visitor or Once per hour to avoid annoying users with repeated popups.

Step 4: Add Targeting Conditions for Exit Intent Campaign
Exit intent popups work best when shown to the right audience at the right time.

Step 5: Set Device Visibility
- Choose All devices to show the campaign everywhere.

Step 6: Customize the Exit Intent Popup Template
Click Edit template to design your pop-up.

A. Greet Users with an Urgent Headline

B. Keep the Form Simple
- Ask for the email address only to reduce drop-offs.
C. Call-to-Action (CTA) Button
- Action: Go to next step (redirects user to the success screen).
- Example button text: “Get My Discount”.

D. Success Page
- Deliver the promised offer (Click on the coupon block and select/create a coupon).
- Example: “Congrats! Your 15% discount is here 🎉”.
- Include a Continue Shopping button.

Step 7: Save and Publish the Campaign
- Click Finish editing to save your template.
- Give your campaign a suitable name (e.g., Exit Intent Discount).
