Add Product Recommendations to Thank You and Win-Back Emails

Email marketing isn’t just about keeping in touch with your customers. It’s also one of the best ways to encourage repeat purchases. By adding product recommendations to your automated emails, you can highlight relevant products at the right moment. This approach boosts both customer engagement and sales.

With the WebToffee eCommerce Marketing Automation app, you can easily add a Product Recommendation block to your Thank You and Win-Back emails. This guide will take you through the process step by step and share best practices to improve your results.

Why Add Product Recommendations to Emails?

Before we get into the steps, here’s why this feature is essential:

  • Boost Repeat Purchases: Customers are more likely to buy again when they see related or complementary products.
  • Personalized Experience: Recommendations are tailored to what’s most relevant, making your emails feel less generic.
  • Increased Engagement: Adding dynamic content, such as recommended items, keeps your emails fresh and engaging.
  • Cross-sell & Upsell Opportunities: It’s a great chance to promote bundles, upgrades, or bestsellers.

Step 1: Navigate to the Automations Section

In your app dashboard, go to the Automations section. Here, you’ll see a list of all your created automations.

  • Select an existing Thank You or Win-Back Customers automation.
  • Or click Create automations to set up a new one.

Step 2: Create a Thank You/Win-Back Automation (Optional)

When creating a new automation, you’ll be presented with multiple automation types. Choose one of these:

  • Thank-You Email Automation – Send an appreciation message after a purchase.
  • Win-Back Customers Automation – Reconnect with inactive customers and bring them back.

Tip: Thank You emails work best for cross-selling related products, while Win-Back emails are ideal for recommending bestsellers or trending items.

Step 3: Configure the Automation Workflow

  • Every automation starts with a trigger (e.g., Order Placed or Inactive for 30 days). You can also add filters and delays to control when the email is sent.
  • Next, click on the Email block in the flow where you want the recommendations to appear.

Step 4: Open the Email Template Editor

  • Move to the Email editor on the right side of the screen.
  • Scroll down and click Edit Content. This will open the drag-and-drop email editor.
  • On the left-hand side, you’ll see different blocks you can insert (text, buttons, coupons, images, etc.).

Step 5: Add the Product Recommendation Block

  • From the blocks panel:
    • Drag and drop the Product Recommendation block into your email template.
    • Place it strategically, for example, right below a Thank You note or discount coupon.

Best Practice: Place the block near the top of your email (but after your main message) so it remains visible without requiring excessive scrolling.

Step 6: Configure the Block

After adding the block, you’ll see configuration options on the right-hand panel.

Here’s what you can customize:

  • Product Source: Select a recommendation bundle (e.g., Chair Upgrade, Accessories Bundle, Frequently Bought Together).
  • Layout: Choose between Grid Layout (multiple products side by side) or List Layout (single product per row).
  • Styling and Appearance:
    • Background Color: Change the background of the block to match your email’s theme.
    • Padding: Control the spacing inside the block.
    • Button Styling:
      • Button color
      • Button font color
      • Button text (e.g., Shop Now, View Product)
    • Product Name Styling:
      • Font color
      • Font size
    • Price Styling:
      • Price color
      • Price font size

Best Practice: Stick with your store’s brand colors for buttons and text to maintain consistency. Make sure the “Shop Now” button stands out clearly.

Step 7: Save and Publish

After configuring the block:

  • Click Finish Editing to save the email design.
  • Review your automation workflow and click Publish to activate it.
